Food Science Technology

The Food Science Technology section offers training in the areas of industrial processing, preservation and packaging of foods, principles of quality control, quality assurance and food safety. The training is offered at the Diploma, and Certificate levels. The section aims at producing well trained graduates, provided with the knowledge and skills, to meet the manpower requirements of the food industry. The section develops manpower for dairy, meat, beverage, cereals, confectionary and root crops processing industries in addition to quality assurance and food safety considerations.Diploma course:takes three years, inclusive three months attachment

Certificate course:takes two years, inclusive three months attachment

Mode of Examinations;

There are internal examinations administered by the institute each term and at end of stage, and final external examination administered by Kenya National Examination Council.(KNEC).examinations include written exams, practical exams and project work. Coursework assessments in the institute constitute 30% of the final grade while 70% is the final examination. Industrial attachment is also a mode of assessment.

Entry Requirements;

A mean grade of C- for diploma course and D+ for certificate, at Kenya certificate of secondary education (KCSE) or equivalents as determined by Kenya National Examination Council.
